Starting from January 1st, 2024, shipping will be included in the EU Emission Trading System (EU ETS).
This means that shipping operators will need to provide EU Emission Allowances (EUAs) to cover their CO2 emissions, following specific rules and CO2/carbon intensity values for different fuel types. EUAs are electronic certificates that represent one metric ton of CO2 emissions and can be used throughout the EU.
